Land Management
Envirotechniques undertakes a broad range of on-ground tasks for land managers. We prepare detailed work prescriptions and actions for your project, plan the management of your site and then implement the work with a diverse range of tasks. We work to protect the balance in ecological systems and enhance natural assets.
Planning
With many years of experience, Envirotechniques can undertake a range of planning for your environmental project. This includes:
- Remnant vegetation action plans
- Site rehabilitation plans
- Site assessments
Envirotechniques’ staff have an extensive knowledge of the indigenous flora of Victoria and a comprehensive understanding of the ecology of a range of ecological vegetation classes EVCs.
Your environmental challenges can receive a practical plan for action.
Remnant Bushland Works
Envirotechniques undertakes the management of remnant bushland and grassland areas in a diverse range of ecological vegetation classes (EVCs). Utilising minimal impact practices and accepted industry procedures (e.g. Bradley Method) we work to protect and enhance high quality remnant sites. In consultation with our clients, work programs are developed and implemented to provide tangible, successful outcomes. We provide an adaptable and versatile approach that is tailored to each site.
Envirotechniques is capable of applying bushland management techniques on a large scale. Tractor operators with good plant identification skills avoid indigenous remnant grasslands. Spray rig operations efficiently cover large areas whilst remaining sensitive to higher conservation value areas.
Back to topWeed Control
Envirotechniques is a licensed ground-spraying operator with the Department of Environment and Primary Industries. Our weed control programs are tailored to suit individual projects.
We utilise a range of weed control practices to provide the most efficient control of weeds for your project. These standard practices include:
- Hand weeding
- Brush cutting
- Weed burning
- Knapsack spraying
- Quikspray rig spraying
Our operators have excellent plant identification skills. They are committed to protecting indigenous vegetation and to minimising damage to non-target species.
Envirotechniques advocates a sensitive approach in the management of high quality remnant vegetation and revegetation sites. Hand weeding can be undertaken exclusively for some sites or in combination with backpack spraying and other techniques. All of our staff are trained to develop and maintain comprehensive plant identification skills. Our goal is to protect your indigenous vegetation and to avoid damage to non-target species.
Backpack spraying in either a remnant area or a revegetation zone requires a sensitive and skilled approach to protect indigenous vegetation, whilst controlling small infestations of weeds. We use a variety of selective and non-selective herbicides to control a range of weeds. Broad scale herbicide application can be undertaken utilising our Quikspray rigs mounted on a four wheel drive. This is an efficient method to tackle large infestations of weeds in difficult-to-access areas along rivers and streams or along roadsides. Tractor operations with a slasher or mulcher can quickly and effectively reduce biomass and fire hazards.
Back to topErosion Control
The control of erosion reduces the loss of soils, improves the ability of vegetation to become established and reduces sediment build up in waterways. Envirotechniques has implemented a large variety of measures to control erosion, utilising a variety of techniques tailored to each site. Rock beaching, check dams, coir logs, geotextile and silt fencing can be installed on your project to control erosion.
Back to topRevegetation
Revegetation of the landscape, especially riparian areas, is an important part of restoring the ecological values. You can achieve this through the control of erosion, improvement of water quality, providing increased habitat opportunities for birds and mammals and developing aesthetically pleasing environments.
Envirotechniques has enjoyed the challenge and rewards of transforming many neglected sites into densely revegetated zones, now providing a multitude of ecological benefits.
Site preparation and establishment tasks include slashing, pre-planting weed control, soil preparation, tree planting and guarding, watering and follow-up maintenance.
Back to topGPS Mapping of Vegetation
Envirotechniques collects waypoints, field data and information for input into Geographical Information Systems (GIS) utilising hand held Geographical Positioning System (GPS) equipment. Vegetation mapping of weeds and indigenous plants, including assets and other features, provide you with key information for management. GPS information can assist in developing future management proposals and provides a reference point for works that have been completed.
Back to topPlant Salvage & Translocation
Indigenous vegetation is being lost as the urban fringe is developed. Expanding land subdivision, roads, and infrastructure have a significant impact on remnant vegetation. Envirotechniques has worked successfully to salvage indigenous plants which are rare or threatened, transferring them to a suitable holding facility or nursery. At the optimum time, plants are replanted to ensure the best chance of establishment. This reduces native vegetation destruction and maintains biodiversity.
Back to topPest Animal Control
Foxes and rabbits present serious and challenging issues for land managers. Foxes impact on the mammal and bird population. Rabbit grazing has a significant impact on remnant indigenous plants and revegetation work. Envirotechniques is able to provide an integrated program to effectively control these pests. Pest animal control programs comply with all current legislation and best industry practice.
Back to topPost Bushfire Rehabilitation
Bushfires have had a significant impact on many communities and are increasing in intensity and frequency. The impact on the landscape, flora, fauna and infrastructure has also been significant.
Envirotechniques has undertaken many projects which have assisted in the response to bushfires. We have the experience and skills in:
- Surveying the flora diversity at photo points
- Undertaking weed control
- Installing check dams to remediate soil erosion
- Completing post bushfire assessments of lost infrastructure
- Track clearing to reopen fire affected areas
We provide a variety of support roles for agencies following bushfires.
Back to topPrescribed Burning
Prescribed burning is an important ecological tool to reduce biomass, promote regeneration and improve biodiversity. Envirotechniques has undertaken small scale prescribed burning for local government clients. Our trained and experienced operators provide a detailed consultation and planning service prior to undertaking the task. All operations are conducted in accordance with the code of practice. We work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a successful outcome. We are able to conduct small scale operations independently or to work collaboratively with other agencies on specific operations.
